Avaglio is located between Pistoia and Montecatini Terme at an altitude of 770 meters and is perfectly situated for making lots of day trips.
Avaglio is a small, charming village with a church and a cozy restaurant (Sonia), where you can enjoy lunch or dinner or grab a pizza. The service is very friendly, and the prices are great. Of course, you can also stop by for a coffee or cappuccino on the terrace and enjoy the view. Just a few minutes from our house, you’ll find a couple of small grocery shops for your daily needs—and you can even have breakfast there (a cappuccino and a cornetto).
Montecatini is an old spa town full of elegant buildings and a nostalgic atmosphere. It has two parts: Alto and Basso. Basso is the larger town, while Alto is a small area with stunning views and a lovely square where you can enjoy a great meal. From Basso, you can either walk up or take a unique tram to the top—definitely worth the experience!
Pistoia is often called “little Florence,” and we absolutely love it. Parking is cheap—just one euro for four hours—and the city has everything: big supermarkets, a hospital, a train station, plenty of shops, a large market twice a week, beautiful squares, and lots of restaurants for lunch or dinner.
From both Montecatini and Pistoia, you can easily reach other famous Tuscan destinations like Florence, Lucca, Pisa, and many charming smaller towns. Don’t miss the Chianti region, just south of Florence. Driving the Chianti route is a real treat, with its breathtaking views and stops in all the important Chianti villages.
A bit farther away, you’ll find Siena, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Cortona, and Pienza.
Everywhere you go, you’ll enjoy the atmosphere and the wonderful terraces.
We’d love to give you tips and recommendations!
